Vattenfall - Energy Trading - Discuss

I was thinking about joining a friend on a grand adventure in Europe. Does anyone know about being an energy/gas/whatever trader at Vattenfall. What are you making entry level in this kind of position, and what sort of career opportunities would it present? Thanks.

I'm a former employee of Vattenfall, not in trading. Salaries are listed as competitive, in Sweden the average salary for people in that sector lies around 1,3 million SEK/year (180K USD) but I havn't found any figures for entry level positions.

The comp and more importantly the tax level differ slightly depending in which of the countries you plan to work in. Vattenfall has trading offices in Sweden, Germany, Holland, Denmark and Poland.

Vattenfall focuses heavily on inside recruiting so if you want to stay in the organisation you will have good opportunities to transfer to other divisions or work yourself up the corporate ladder. Exit outside of the company you'll have to ask someone else.

  1. They have an accessment center as a part of interview process. I have heard it is math/quants. What kind of exam is it? sequantial math or statistics or SHL?
  2. Also if you know anything about the "case study" (also this is also a selection process). I can imagine that candidates were given energy market info and they have to make trading decisions out of it. But if you know any further detail, pls let us know.

I trade (for another company) physical nat gas with them. check their website, just had a look and saw one post for a nat gas trader. Trading in Europe mainly from their offices in Amsterdam (Netherlands.formerly NUON) and Hamburg (Germany).
