What's the best I can do in my current situation?
Always had a mind for math but I switched to biology in college to pursue premed (the lazy way). Rising junior, semi-target big state school, 3.7 GPA. GPA will definitely go up next year since I'm done with the hardest courses in my major (if I stay on bio, that is).
Not "leaving" the premed path but it's suddenly dawned on me that I need a backup if I don't like the idea of med school. I'm thinking about switching to a statistics + econ double major (or possibly just stats if I can only fit in one) next year. I think I would do well in either or both of these majors.
Some of my experience, though most (all) of it is irrelevant:
Summer experience:
Summer after freshman year -- developmental bio research (unpaid)
Summer after sophomore year (i.e. right now) -- nanotech/cancer bio research (paid)
Other experience:
Treasurer for a large campus organization, in charge of managing about $40,000 and overseeing the funds from several business ventures, using data to predict profits based on previous years, etc.
Co-chair and treasurer for another organization aimed at providing tech education to lower-income and undeserved populations
Head of a group that worked on a social entrepreneurship venture -- presented to VC's, part of a competition at our business school
Good amount of service, volunteering and teaching (homeless, underserved, school children, hospitals)
I'm not gunning for IB or whatever, but what sorts of job opportunities would be available if I successfully completed stats (and/or econ) and networked well? How behind would I be?
Corporate finance at big F500 company.
