When should I ask HR about my status?

I had two superdays at the same firm (think GS, MS, JPM) in two different divisions.

  • The first one I heard a week later and I am on hold. They told me they would get back to me as soon as possible. So far it has been 4 weeks since the interview and 3 weeks since they last contacted me.
  • The second division (my preference) I had a superday for 11 days ago (including weekends). They said decisions would go out in a week or two. I haven't heard back anything. I'm assuming I'm on hold since rejections usually go out fairly quickly.

Should I email them and ask for my status? Any advice? Am I more likely dinged or on hold for the second one? It's not front office so I don't know if decisions go out in the same manner as IBD decisions go (i.e., i don't know if they give out acceptances really fast and holds last).

How to Ask About Job Application Status?

When following up after an interview or superday, it’s important to be proactive but not aggressive and annoying. While it may be hard to find that balance, a good rule of thumb is to send HR an email or call after a week or two if you haven’t heard anything. If you don’t hear back from HR, check with your network to see if they know the status of the position – if it’s been filled or not. In general, you don’t want to bother the people you interviewed with or reach out to HR every day. Good luck!

i would take it as good. they probably already offered people positions and are trying to see how many people are accepting. i think they basically "waitlist" people and if the people given offers start to reject, they will call you and give you an offer. but keep in mind that those people have awhile to decide...so it might take time.

Speaking as a recruiter who has worked on a TON of JPMC positions (including hitting events)...I have a feeling you probably didn't get it. Just being honest, "position on hold" is classic code for filled or being filled...but not by you. Offers go out within a day or two after the last day of an event, with backups id'd for any turn downs within a week. They rarely if ever offer feedback to anyone they're not making an offer to. Sorry to be debbie downer and sincerely hope im wrong, but sharing professional experience.

hey guys, just as an update i am now on hold for both of the positions. I really don't want to sit around and do nothing about it, any ideas? Would emailing my interviewers and reiterating interest help at all?

I am wondering about the same thing. I am waiting for mine too. I mean logically speaking, if you want to know your status, you ask HR. But do you think if we should email the interviewers too? Just to reiterate interest? Will that help at all?! I mean I assume they have made their decisions?
