Who Am I?
I am the creator of this group and here is a brief bio. Please submit bio's of yourself so we get to know who you are.
I am located in Saskatoon, SK, Canada and am 23 years old. I have been watching the stock market since age 16, but actively trading for the last 3 years. My education is a BA in Economics, and completion of the Canadian Securities Course (I recommend this course for anyone looking to understand more about securities and investment banking).
For the past couple years I have been a bartender, and trade actively from my personal account. I love to play some video games when I have some spare time to relax and of course going out with friends and what not. I have some experience as an Intraday Trader, however the position was only a couple months while off school for the summer.
I am interested in Equities, commodities, and energy trading. Most of my experience is with Equities (metals and mining) but am open to all other aspects. I feel as each division of trading is very different however some key aspects will be carried over to other divisions of trading. I am excited to hopefully learn more about the different trading sectors, commoditiy, energy and enhance my knowledge in the equities market.
OP, is the CSC a pretty common thing in Trading? I'd assume its just one of those things you're expected to have, but maybe you can shed some light on it.
Also, have you heard anything about the Bloomberg Assessment Test? I've heard its useless from some, and not bad from others...
Who am I? - 23 years old from Toronto - Bachelor of Commerce, Finance - Still looking for a job (networking with boutiques, but also applying to consulting) - Will be taking CSC in the fall - previous work experience in consulting for IT and Green tech in Ontario
The BAT seems half-useful? from what people are saying on the forums.
I think the CSC is great if you plan on becoming a institutional/retail portfolio manager/financial adviser, but if you plan to work in IB, ER, etc. then you'd be better off working on the CFA. I'm planning on getting my CSC as preparation for studying for the CFA, although I'm starting to think just studying straight through for CFA lvl 1 makes more sense.
Everyone in my year seems to think that taking it is a good idea regardless of what they end up doing after graduation, so I guess if you have the extra $1k to burn on the course then go for it, unless your absolutely sure you have no desire of becoming a FA.
