Your degree in the long run

Do private equity firms care about your undergraduate degree at all? If you have a great 2 year analyst stint, how much will the prestige of your undergrad degree/program and GPA matter?

Not really

They care much more about WHERE you went to undergrad rather than your specific major... GPA matters a little but it mostly comes down to the "prestige" of where you went.

But even that tends to matter less than it does for banking. Friends have gone to non-target undergrad schools, done a good job in banking and still gotten into PE.

Of course I suspect most of the Associate hires at KKR/Blackstone/TPG and such still went to target schools, simply because of the nature of recruiting (target school leads to bulge bracket leads to large PE).

Still, if you've had a good experience and can convey your knowledge convincingly you'll get interviews.

Thanks for your advice. My

Thanks for your advice. My school is respectable but not prestigious. Would there a be a big difference if I graduated from a certain major that was ranked #1 or #2 nationally, compared to one that was not as great?
