Aleynikov Charged in GS Doomsday Machine Theft

Here we go again.

I was thinking this guy was off the hook for the theft of bits of proprietary code in the days before he left Goldman Sachs. Turns out he's not.

Sergey Aleynikov was indicted yesterday on 3 charges related to the theft: theft of trade secrets, transportation of stolen property in interstate and foreign commerce, and unauthorized computer access. He faces up to 25 years in prison.

He allegedly stole part of the proprietary code to Goldman's high-frequency trading platform after being hired by Reza Technologies. In addition to uploading the data to an offshore server, he is also believed to have transferred proprietary files to his home computer, proving once again that even smart people do really dumb shit sometimes.
