1 on 1 Interview
Please describe the interview / hiring process.
In December, during finals week, an analyst and alum of my college sent out an email stating that he was excited to have me apply for Jefferies' Summer Analyst Program. At this point, I had not applied to Jefferies, but I had submitted my resume at one of the workshops that they hosted and I assume thats how they knew I was interested. I spoke with this alum over the phone after his email, and then followed up with him and a couple of the other analysts a few more times during the process. I was selected for an interview, which was me, a second-year associate, and a VP. We interviewed in the morning, and I was already nervous, as this was the first interview of the recruiting season. There was a bit of good cop (VP) bad cop (associate) going on in the interview, and that dynamic made me more nervous. The two also continuously looked at their blackberries throughout the interviews process, and did not make eye-contact with me while I spoke. One other candidate told me the VP literally walked out of the room during one of his answers about walking through a DCF. Anyway, not the best interview experience, and I did not get a second round. But, those that did were taken to a lavish dinner at the Capital Grille the night before. They had 24 guys at the first round, and I think 8 made it to the second round. They made 3-4 offers.
