Please describe the interview / hiring process.
I don't think they ever publicize their internship program so you kinda need to have a referral from the inside. Then you will receive an application form, asking you to choose from "Investment Solutions, Markets or Marketing". I was in the U.S so all I had was one round of phone interview. It was done by a HR. First started with "tell me about your self", followed up by asking about relevant experiences. Mostly behavioral, nothing technical. However, she asked a lot on how much I know about Julius Baer. So she was looking for : it's the biggest PURE private bank in the world, it focuses on what it does and believe by not having a commercial or investment bank division it avoids conflict of interest so that it was able to find the best deal for its clients. It just acquired Merrill Lynch WM's Asia branches in 2012 and just completed the integration in 2013. So half of the staff are from Merrill now.
People are all nice, because of the Swiss culture, it doesn't require its employees to stay for a long time. The Markets Group in HK only have 10 people, all pretty hard working. However, trading is mostly done in Singapore. Most analysts and associates spend part of time answering clients' call, producing term sheets and placing trades. Hope this helps
