CFA® L2 after taking a year off

Was wondering if any of you fellow monkeys passed L1 in a December exam, then bypassed the subsequent June L2 exam to take a break, and took it a year later...

Did the L1 material review bog you down when you went to start studying for L2, or was what as in the L2 curriculum sufficient to study from?

Thx for the feedback.

Interesting question. I just passed L1 in Dec and am not taking L2 until June 2013. Any advice? Easy to pick back up in say july aug?

I am getting married late May so June 3rd or whenever level 2 is pretty much out of the question for me unfortunately. Hopefully picking it back up again after the wedding will not be to grueling.

Don't bother reviewing the level 1 material- almost none of it is repeated and what is repeated will be rehashed in the level 2 curriculum (assuming of course you haven't forgotten how to discount a cash flow).

I agree with Duff, you should be able to just pick up level 2. I know Schweser gives you a little refresher book with level 2 materials, but it's really irrelevant as the main concepts are gone over in the books. They will re-hash basically everything on the test but expect you to know stuff without them dumbing it down too much. For ex: They will talk about doing a DCF analysis and expect you to know what it is and what the variables they reference are, but they provide the equation. Shouldn't be an issue and if you were able to pass level 1, waiting a while on level 2 shouldn't be a big deal.

Level 2 is quite different from L1, much more difficult of course, the exam is an item set of 6 questions each, the weight of topics vary dramatically, the content is not like what you have studied at the uni for a bachelor degree. 4 months are not sufficient to have a proper preparation, but it's not a bad idea to give it a try anyway. I will be taking L2 for the second time next june, I was in band 10 last year, what a bad luck.
