From Tech to hedge Fund of Funds

Hi All,I am an analyst working for a FAANG company in the UK, 1 yoe. Graduated in April, good gpa from a target. Outside the big tech FT exp I also had an internship in big 4 audit.I received an offer to join a small Fund of Funds as an investment analyst intern. This might be a good step to move from tech to the financial sector, in the end I would like to end up in AM.I have the following questions:1) Is it a good move or it is better to wait for the off cycles to see if I can get a big bank ?2) I am worried that after this experience, my CV will not be enough to both go back to tech if I did not like it or move to a different finance job/bank.Let me know what you think, especially considering the current economic outlook. Thanks for your replies.

I have some experience with manager selection which is basically what FoFs is. Depends what you are doing at FAANG and how the pay lines up. Tbh with you, it won’t be easy to go from manager selection to security selection because it isn’t really transferable. You are underwriting managers, not securities or companies. It’s a step away from the action and more hands off. That being said, manager selection is quite easy and you meet some of the biggest and brightest managers in their space. If you like it, you could make a career out of it but it sounds like you want to actually be at a manager, not just give them money to do what they do.

I

would stick with FAANG if you are like a financial analyst and try to get something more closely related to what you want rather than jumping at the first opportunity. Luckily, you are in a decent spot with brand name experience even if it may not be relevant to what you want to do.

Thanks for your reply. As regards the role I am a business analyst. They pay will be lower in the new role. I decided to reject and wait for a better opportunity.
