(offer decision) endowment vs investment counsel
Morning WSO.
Need some advice on selecting for my next role.
I was recently offered a job at a major endowment ($15bn)'s fixed income team, 90% of job is manager selection/fund of funds, 10% internal investing mostly with highly rated corporate and government bonds. I like the small team, culture, benefit and security of the job, and they don't hire that often. Downside is, I like manager research but I am afraid to get pigeonholed if I ever want to go back to individual credit investing.
2nd one is with a smaller investment counsel ($2bn), it is an equity analyst (generalist) role with another senor equity analyst supporting a few PMs. I like the opportunity to cover across sectors. Downside is the job security (compared to fixed income at endowment) and work-life balance (i haven't work in buy side equity before).
Previously I worked in corporate banking and sell side equity research for a total of 7 years, had both CFA and CPA. Not saying I am a slacker, but after being slaughtered in ER and having a family now, I kind of valuing job security and family time.
Would like to hear your opinion.
Thanks.
Mark
