Stock pitch interview question

Wassup everyone, Have a final round ER SA 2021 interview coming up, and I have zero idea how to go about finding stocks to prepare pitches for. It seems like most people on wallstreetoasis think it's a good idea to pitch stocks that aren't huge companies (apple, tesla, etc.) How should I go about finding smaller companies to pitch? 


Any advice on how to go about researching these companies and stocks would be extremely appreciated. 

 

It depends if you are interviewing for a generalist or sector-specific role. If it’s sector specific, I’d pick a stock from the coverage you are interviewing for. Otherwise, pick a stock from a sector you have an interest in. 

As far as your pitch goes - it doesn’t have to be the next “big short” as I’d assume expectations will be relatively low, but there are a couple of points you should hit: 

1) Basic introduction (ticker, mkt cap, valuation)

2) Business description (aka how the company makes money)

3) Hit the 3 main points why you’d go long/short.
