How long do suit pants last?
Or put differently, how long until a pair of suit pants generally wears out? Rotating 3 brand new suits for 10-16 weeks- will one pair of pants per suit be enough, or do I need two? Budget is limited- I can buy two pairs of pants per suit if necessary, but that will take money away from other things that I'd like to buy (christmas presents etc).
This is for a SA stint and I will be buying the cheaper CT suits. Don't know if I intend to wear the same suits FT, so I don't know if i need them to last for a very long time.
You probably don't need 2 pairs of pants. Realistically, your SA suits will become your beater suits after you get your first bonus. Also, you can probably pick up another set of pants after you start if you want, as CT will them for a long time.
Thanks, that makes sense.
Might be better off going with 2 suits and 2 extra pairs of pants. You're not going to be wearing the jacket for most of the day anyways.
I am at a bank that is business formal, so although the jacket will be off I think 3 suits is better than 2. I also don't know that I will need these long-term. I'm more worried about whether 3 suits with one pair of pants each will last the summer easily.
If I were you I would go with 3 suits and 2 pairs of pants for each. Since you will be using them anyway for FT why not buy them now. It will be comfortable to rotate and they will stay in shape longer. What price range are you looking at? Before my SA stint I bought 5 suits and 2 pairs of pants for each of them. They weren't the most expensive (bespoke) suits out there, but MTM suits. It worked really well last summer. They serve me well now and I will start my FT wearing them as well. I would also recommend you to get a good set of shirts you can rotate because shirts and ties are the most noticeable part of your closet people will notice first. In your position I would not buy Charles Tyrwhitt suits. I would go with suits from different brands offered at Men's Wearhouse or Jos A Bank's Signature suits, but only when they have a sale. You can get their best suits much cheaper and in a comparable price to cheapest CT suits. Since discounted CT suits are $449.00 you can buy comparable suits on sale from MW and JAB. PM me if you need to find some discounts. Make sure they are 100% wool and the lining is natural not polyester lining.
Why not CT? I like them a lot. I also don't think I will use the same suits for FT (I don't think I'll be the same size when FT starts) so I'm more concerned with suits just for the SA as of now. I have a coupon for CT so that the suits become like $375 each.
Agree about shirts and ties. I have around 15 ties now and will be buying a bunch of CT shirts (I like those a lot too, plus they have the great 4 for $199 deal).
I also don't have the luxury of waiting for a sale- this is for a SA stint in the S.hemisphere that starts in late Nov/early Dec, and I need to have the suits bought by mid-November.
