Ties - Ties sloping upward

I'm starting an internship soon, and I heard that it's not good to wear normal ties sloping downward, but rather ties sloping upward, because of the market. Most ties come sloping downward, so my wardrobe is full of 'em. I mean, it's not going to make a real difference right? Although, I don't want anyone to think, "wow this guy is reaal stupid" my first day on the job.

Be hygienic and don't look like a clown. There's some guidance for you when you dress in the morning. Other than that, who gives a shit what you wear. Your double chin, spare tire and other host of unsightly attributes are going to be remembered more than what stupid f-ing tie, shirt or shoes you wear. FACKIN A!

The OP brings up a valid issue. I would say ties with slopes of 1 or -1 are your safest bet, but you want to avoid those with a slope between 0 and 1. Picking a tie with the right slope is more an art than a science, so it's fine to play it by eye.

I'm not so sure I would follow this advice, it really depends on the bank and even the group. For the more prestigious groups like GS TMT, etc. you want to go closer to -1 but you can go lower depending on your group and also the amount of your bonus. If you hunt around online you can find an excel model that will compute the perfect slope.

And like any other xls model, I guess you could decide what result you want to find beforehand, and will therefore be able to justify you SHOULD wear the old ties you already have.

You are a one man argument for the merits of abortion.
