watch for first time SA

Hey guys, first time SA from a non-target. I'll be at JPM this summer and I'm wondering what the status quo is on SA attire. I'm obviously not trying to overstep my boundaries and definitely not trying to flaunt my accessories. I currently have a black on black Citizen EcoDrive but was looking for another that I can alternate with. Really looking at spending 500-600 max (actually looking at the Jorg Gray JG6500..thoughts?). Any and all advice is welcome. THanks in advance!!

Check out Bulova watches if you like leather strap styles. Their moderately priced in the 200-500 range. I personally own two leather strap watches from their classics collection. Their classic collection has some timeless and simple watches that can really be a nice addition to an outfit.

Check out Mondaine, and Shinola. You may even be able to get an automatic at that price point. They both have a good mix of style and appropriateness. From a quality perspective, they aren't much different from watches like Sieko, and Bulova.

I got this watch for my ex-fiance and it is my favorite (by far) in your price range: http://www.ashford.com/us/watches/hamilton/khaki-aviation/H76565135.pid…

Hamilton is relatively unknown except by people that know watches. Most will see a nice watch, but those that do know them will be in quiet approval of your choice. +1 on Shinola as well. Mondaines have good reviews on a watch forum I visit but I, personally, prefer the other two brands. The Mondaine "look" doesn't seem to have the same impact to me... your opinion may vary though.

If another watch would be stretching it financially your current watch is fine though.

adapt or die:

surf brand stuff does not go over well here

I especially like different kinds of sunglasses e.g. electrics, dragon alliance, hobie, von zipper etc but here only ray ban wayfarers are allowed

I know an IB MD who wears a surf watch (the one with GPS which tracks how high your waves are). If you make enough money you can wear whatever the hell you want on your wrist.

He surfs almost every morning, so I have to respect his DGAF attitude when he could easy afford very nice timepieces.

I enjoy watch collecting and would advise to wait - save your money - and buy something in the $2-3k range (or higher if you can). There you are looking at automatic watches from brands like Tag, Omega, and Breitling, to name only a few. While these may be their lower tier watches, they are great watches in their own right. For example, instead of buying a Seiko or Hamilton I waited and purchased an Omega Speedmaster for my "first real" watch, and I could not have been more pleased.

Happy Hunting!

Honestly just get a Seiko for $100-$250. They look good, are inexpensive and are the best watch for the value. I find it insane that an SA would spend more than $250 on a watch. I had a god damn Timex from Target last summer.
