HF RE Seats

Wondering if someone at one of these HF RE groups (2sig, Baupost, Sculptor, etc.) can give me a sense of what the business/role is like. Very interested in recruiting for one of these seats as an alternative to MF REPE eventually, so would appreciate any insight. Curious about culture, team background, and learning curve.

Very interested as well. Anyone know of the transferability of skills from REPE to this type of role?

Is their team size representative of RE practices for multistrategy managers? Saw they have twelve people as of July.

bump — assuming re credit might also have great opportunities at HFs

Are you looking for a public reit seat or just a repe seat within a hedge fund? If the latter, there is no difference between repe within a hedge fund and repe at a standalone firm or within a large asset manager. Don’t try to overcomplicate. Some like sculptor did some more niche asset types eg. Cell towers, mobile homes, etc. but there are loads of repe funds that do niche areas as well. Some could make the argument that within a hedge fund they could have broader mandate, but realistically these are separately raised funds and will face the same constraints as a stand-alone repe fund. If what you’re looking for is broad mandate then look for broad mandates as that can be found at an style of firm just dependent on the fund mandate.
