Interview Questions: Moving into the Industry?
I'm talking to a fairly big equity long/short fund. I've been told that my next interview will be more detailed and technical. Position is "analyst," basically. Previous interviews have been more about cultural fit and such.
My background is that I've worked as a consultant in the industry that I'd be analyzing for this fund. They already have an industry team, so I wouldn't be the only guy, and they don't expect me to be an expert on modeling and such.
Should I be prepared with stock picks? Should I work on financial modeling at all? (I know it from college, but I'm pretty rusty.) Right now I'm doing the first chapter of Heard on the Street. Anything else I should read up on? Do funds expect an Excel jockey? It wasn't part of my previous job.
And any hints/advice would be appreciated. I will report back.
Just wondering what have you been doing between college and now?
Basically a couple years in an unrelated, salesy career, 3 years doing consulting in the industry I'd be analyzing, then a year in-house at a F500 company in the same industry. But the in-house job is basically an extended consulting gig.
