Best way to get into euqity research?
Hey fellow monkies!
I'm an undergrad student at a UK target and after all this rant about the lifestyle of an M&A banker, I have serious doubts about applying for that division next year at IBs. If we are not looking solely at the comp, for my personality and genuine interest, equity research would be a much better option. I feel that it is fairly underrated as everybody is so obsessed with M&A and there isn't really much discussion about it. I would really appreciate some wisdom about focusing on ER out of undergrad from someone more experienced and the knowledge that one can acquire there for career progression. Thanks!
Hi @Leonard, hope I can help. Do any of these links cover what you're looking for:

Hope that helps.
Hey not sure what exactly are you looking/is your question for but isn’t ER Summer -> FT the thing you should be prioritising? If you still qualify for spring weeks then do that too
Firstly, learn how to spell equity...
In terms of getting a job straight out of undergrad, equity research works exactly like M&A. Get a summer internship, work your balls off and then convert it into a FT role. Just because it doesn't get spoken about as much on this forum, doesn't mean it isn't competitive. From my experience in London, there are often fewer summer intern places in equity research vs M&A.
Make a list of all the banks that have an equity research internship and start applying, there's no substitute for putting in the hard work
