Evercore vs PJT SA

Super grateful to have gotten SA 2025 offers from both firms in NYC. The summer analyst programs are generalist but I’m interested in joining the healthcare group full time. I wanted some insight into how they might compare with each other – in terms of healthcare (and other) groups, general culture, hours, mentorship, etc. I’ve heard comp and exits are broadly similar, but correct me if I’m wrong. Any insight would be super helpful – thank you.

Can’t go wrong either way - I know that PJT takes dedicated healthcare interns usually from Wharton healthcare management every year with only 1-2 other interns getting the other spots. Know some people that have taken one over the other every year, similar placements as well can’t really go wrong just depends on what you want.

I had to make a similar decision last year and went with PJT. You’ll get the same brand name at either firm but at PJT you get to do a lot more - class size is about 25 vs evercore that had a class of 70+. Summer interns at PJT were invited to in person client meetings and there’s a ton of exposure to senior partners and management. Additionally, PJT’s healthcare team is top notch and I know a few non Wharton people who got to work on HC deals. You will usually get staffed on your preference, so don’t think too much on it. Evercore has grown too big like having a sales and trading, equity research and wealth management team as a “boutique.” Evercore is losing it’s core and you can get everything you get at EVR plus more at PJT.

Ditto. Would double down that due to EVR’s growth over ~5 years it has lost the collegial nature and fun factor that only seems to be growing at PJT. I would try to talk to an analyst at both and see which personalities are a better fit, as you will get two very different types of people. WLB at PJT will be marginally better with their WFH mandates and vacation programs. Professionally speaking, though, you can’t go wrong—congrats.

A bit of a different take than the others but I was in your position before and ended up choosing EVR (though I wasn’t particularly interested in HC). I would agree that comp will basically be the same and PJT will have a more boutique feel but figured EVR was best for me since I was optimizing for MFPE exits. I had a great intern experience and haven’t regretted yet — hope that helps!

FYI, exits are going to be similar, if not better, on a per capita basis at PJT. As an Analyst you get an interview you want, and seniors and the entire firm is very supportive of recruiting to PE. With PJT’s class being almost 1/4th of Evercore’s you are competing against less people, while getting the backing of the entire firm. Once you’re in the interview room it’s up to you to perform, and no logo is going to give you the automatic job. What the logo does is get you into the room which both firms will ultimately do.

I’d second this. EVR has a noticeably better brand compared to PJT (in M&A not RX) and seniors are very understanding of PE recruiting. For reference, at my fund, there have been years where the majority of our seats have been filled by only EVR analysts. But honestly you can’t go wrong with either so I’d definitely recommend speaking with the people to see which firm you like better.

dont know much about pjt but hc seems like one of the chiller groups at evr - analyst i spoke to there was always wfh or on vacation like they don't have a facetime culture at all. still a strong group with great exits nevertheless so sounded like the optimal place to be

PJT brand name is leagues beyond EVR. If you haven't heard the horror stories of what's happening at EVR recently, they've essentially been going down the path of Greenhill by overhiring, taking on low quality laterals and juniors with spine-shivering backgrounds/pedigrees.

Congratulations on receiving offers from Evercore and PJT SA for summer analytics! Assess the structure and specialization of the medical groups in both companies, their reputation in this field and the relevant projects they have implemented.
Explore both companies' culture, values, teamwork, and approach to employee development.
I also advise you to contact former or current interns of both companies to get their opinion and assessment of work experience. This will help you make a more informed decision.
