FT Hire at BEAR starting in summer 08'

I have been hired and accepted a FT analyst position at Bear to start in the summer of 08'. I have been hired in the Controllers group. With the way things are looking with the $2 per share buyout by JPM it's uncertain that I will even have a job. I graduate in less than 2 months.

I feel I need to prepare myself and try to find an offer to fall back on if the Bear job doesn't work out. Is it too late to market myself to small IBing/trading firms? Have all the small IBs done their hiring? I know the BBs have. I was hired during late November.

Ultimately, Id like to do IBing or some sort of trading related job rather than the Controllers group. However, I was more than happy to have been hired into the Controllers group due to my gpa and the fact that I'm not from a top tier school. Maybe Bear's crisis and me possibly not having a job(havent heard anything from HR) can turn out to be a blessing and maybe I can get into a group at a smaller bank doing what I ultimately want to do; Trading or IBanking.

Think we will get to keep our signon bonus if we arent able to keep our job?
I heard someone mention they think that Bear 08' hires might even get a full-year paid severance. I doubt that but what do you think?

Is it worth trying to talk with people at small banks for positions this late in the game? Know any banks still hiring?

Good luck to all the other Bear 08' hires out there.

weswes i am screwed as well, i was going to be a SA seems like I am going to have a summer holidays of working at Macs rather than doing IB. Good luck to you weswes and all the other bear potential hires, lets just hope that the contract will still be valid.

You won't be starting at Bear Stearns anymore-they went belly up this morning.
