GS TMT SF in 2023
Interested in updated info about Goldman's SF TMT group:
-
Does GS SF TMT usually do FT analyst recruiting? If yes, usually how many spots are there each year?
-
What are the culture and hours like now? Have heard in the past that the experience is phenomenal but the hours are absolutely brutal. What is camaraderie within the team like? How are the seniors and how much support/interaction do you get?
-
Heard that some partners/MDs left this year ... some left to Evercore. What kind of impact has that had? How is the group's reputation holding up after this?
-
What are PE exits like? Have always heard exceptional things about GS TMT NY but how has GS TMT SF been doing for MF/UMM PE exits? How does GS TMT SF compare against other top IB groups for exits?
Curious as well
Anyone? Feel like this group is too popular to not have anyone share a perspective :'(
have heard its a top group (obviously what you'd expect) but if you're looking for pure PE/buyout exits, it's a step below GS NY TMT. Exits tend to be more on the growth / VC side (not that that's worse than buyout) and this is probably more due to self selection rather than lack of ability from the analysts. Culture is rough as one would expect. With that said, if you're set on tech banking, I would only consider Qatalyst and MS Menlo Park (less so these days) to be comparable groups.
GS in SF has had a lot of turnover in the last year. Lots of partners and some analysts/associates left. Remember those comments from the leaked GS internal review? Some of the worst ones were from GS TMT SF. Q and MS Menlo are a step above but what happens in 2024 will set groups apart in terms of ranking.
Following
1. They usually take FT to keep the analyst class at 15-18 but not this year
2. Culture is surprisingly good
3. A couple of senior people are still sitting out non-competes, so there's not much client poaching yet. GS is GS so they'll probably be fine.
4. PE exits are top-tier if that's what you want but a lot of analysts self-select into VC/growth or chill startup jobs. The group will get you in the door anywhere, but you still gotta perform in interviews if you wanna go MF
