How does transferring impact internships/career advancement?
I'm a current freshman at UChicago, and I'd like to transfer out to an NYC university. My mother was recently diagnosed with a serious health concern, and I'd like to go to school in NYC, so I can keep an eye on her and take care of her if something were to happen to her again. I'd preferably go to Columbia as that's the closest to where she is, and she doesn't want me to transfer to any university "lower" than UChicago. I know she'd feel guilty if I did. I also have academic, cultural, and personal reasons why I'd like to attend Columbia. I spoke with my academic advisor, and he told me that UChi -> Columbia is not an uncommon path for UChi transfers and with my GPA + research that I'd have a decent chance. Obviously, transferring has its own problems, and, just for my own knowledge, I'd like to hear how transferring changes career trajectory, if at all. I either want to do IB or quant trading in the future. Thanks!

It won’t affect you at all really. I believe in a theory of if you can explain it and not feel weird then your fine. It will likely add at least a year as most colleges don’t accept transfer credits. At the end of the day your going to Columbia, went to Chicago, you might even get a advantage recruiting because you have access yo two networks. Just have the reason you transferred ready for interviews.
