Iam 21 going to a community college in a small (really small) oil rich country)

Iam 21 going to a community college (Accounting , first year,i'll have be 25 when I graduate) in a small oil rich country. Have I got enough time to get into Ibanking??? How should I approach it?? no work experience btw.

Plz advice. Any advice is appreciated.

Based on your posting, no. For the following reasons:

  1. Lack of coherent writing skills
  2. Lack of drive/commitment to education
  3. Lack of drive/commitment to any kind of work (no work, probably lived with rich parents...how are you going to do 100 hr weeks?)
  4. Poor attitite (seeming to think coming from an "oil rich" country matters)

But to answer your question, you can enter the industry any time with the right education and approach.

Thanks aspiringmonkey and ZiggyMon...

Theres a branch of Tepper school of finance here.. Iam trying to get admission there. Is it a recognized college where you guys work??

...that's a part of Carnegie Mellon University -- apparently, the undergraduate business program is top-10 and places a great deal of students in banking.

Iam in Qatar.. There are a total of 2 BB over here ..thats it!!

Thats why its very hard for me to get a good start.

Do any of you guys have any idea of the IB scene in Dubai??

Also, Ill be 25 when I graduate is it too old for IB... When did you guys get started??

Nearly all BBs have set up or are setting up in Dubai.

I would suggest trying to get an internship at any of the major investment banks in the region during this summer (BBs, other internationals as well as local IBs). Also, you might want to consider studying abroad (UK or USA).

Most of the opportunities at IBs are for experienced people. Getting some IB or finance experience is key. Even if it is only summer interships.

Get good grades and start writing to IBs now about internships and build contacts and a network so that you are aware of what roles are out there.
