Internship Placement Companies
Has anyone ever heard of University of Dreams? It's companies that finds internships for students who pay them. I'm a student at what can be considered not quite a target school (Univ. of Miami) with a mediocre GPA (3.4 rounded). I think that if I continue to improve my grades (bring up my GPA to a 3.5 3.6) and spend a considerable amount of time networking/cold-calling I can get a decent summer analyst position in a couple years (I'm starting my sophomore year now). I recently learned about programs like University Of Dreams, which places student in internships using their "extensive connections" at various firms. The cost for this service, however, totals $7,999. This is pretty expensive and I am no rich kid from the suburbs; but, if, because of their "connections", I can get a better internship than I could by myself, I would be more inlcined to put up the cash for a higher caliber internship. What do you guys think about this? Is UOD worth it in this situation?
One more thing: If you're looking at the resume of an applicant at an IB or BB and their degree is from the Univ. of Miami, what kinds of conclusion would you draw? I know UM isn't necessarily a target school but how is it viewed in the finance community?
Thanks!
These programs are less valuable for people seeking finance jobs, relative to say, D.C. lobbying jobs.
There are more than enough firms out there that will take smart non-target students as unpaid interns. Unpaid > paying for.
