To add on, is it bad taste to be networking with BBs/EBs as an incoming MM analyst or should I wait till I've had a few months on the job?

Wait until your FT, please. Also, note that on-cycle is within the first few weeks of hitting the desk, so you'll either have to wait an extra year or do off-cycle.
What about those that are 8 months in. What’a should frequency of emails be
Literally no reason since you won’t be hired until after your 1st year anyway.
Not true someone from my bank lateralled to Moelis 4 months into first year (recently - had a boyfriend at Moelis though) and another to another bank in ~8 months.

Based on those I’ve spoken to, it’s best to go Associates -> VP, but not move up to MD’s unless the VP’s advise you to.
This is true, unless the MD shares some common background (same hometown, high school, etc) its better to ask the juniors first which MD is best to talk to
What about email frequency, is emailing 3 people per day excessive? Want to maximize chances but not come off annoying

Jumping ship quickly isn’t what I’d recommend (within 3-6 months of your new job), which is doable if you do networking proactively. However, after 6 months and with the market potentially reopening soon I think you are better off waiting a bit and opportunities will come. 2 people per day from the same group is excessive, I would maybe do 2 per week / week and a half. You really need 1-2 connections willing to back you in a recruitment process, the rest of the team you will meet during interviews, many of which will be more casual assuming you get deeper in the process.
