Making contact after a few months
Alright I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on the best way to approach this situation: Over Christmas break I was in Jackson Hole, WY and the place we stay has a small bar. While sitting talking with my parents we met an individual who happened to be an MD at a middle market bank. We spoke for a little and fortunately he had some of the same contacts as my father. I introduced myself and told him where I went to school what my major was and that I played varsity baseball. He left shortly to attend to guests.
My ultimate goal here would be an internship either after sophomore year or junior year with the firm. Being that it is quite a long time until either of those (I'm just ending my freshman year), should I send an email asking him questions about what he does, why he likes it, etc.? Or is there a more effective way to approach this?
Thanks in advance
Send him an email and reintroduce yourself (met at XYZ in Jackson Hole last winter). Tell him you're interested in investment banking and would like to set up an informational interview with him. If he doesn't respond to your email within two weeks, follow up with another. There is absolutely no reason not to contact the guy. Keep in mind MD’s network for a living, even if he is too busy to meet with you he’ll appreciate your initiative.
definitelx send him a mail and eventually he wil have time for you. i contacted top consultants (M/B/B) in my soph. year and they always had time to chat a little. tell them you do not need more than 30 mins. or even less, you just wanna chat a littel to gain deepr knowledge in the industry and who would be a better person to talk to than you, Mr XXX. good luck!
