Rothschild NY vs other MM banks
Haven’t seen much on Rothschild NYC in recent years. Curious to see how it compares in experience and exit opps vs other middle market banks (RBC, HW, Jefferies, Blair, HL).

Career Resources
Don't see them much, but historically have been strong in consumer/food.
thank you for being the only person to answer the question and not get hung up on “is rbc a mm”
RBC is a MM?
RBC falls within an awkward grey area in my opinion. Touted as a bulge bracket because of their balance sheet and lending capabilities but viewed as a middle market platform because of the platform's average transaction size. From the perspective of middle market platforms, RBC may default into lower average transaction size becauase of the platform's perceived inability to compete with the largest bulge bracket advisors in winning the largest mandates, on average. Conversely, middle market platforms focus solely on sub $1 bn transactions without consideration for the largest M&A mandates.
In my opinion, there is an awkward in-between, which necessitates care in discussing buckets or tiers with bankers when recruiting.
It's not, RBC is a BB at this point.
DB above RBC?
A true BB should have a strong presence across all major geographies and products (M&A, ECM/DCM, S&T etc). RBC's presence outside of North America is weak to non-existent
Exit ops include Wall Street Oasis
this comment is underrated
nice one. I'd SB you if I could hahah
Far above any of the other shops you mentioned.
How would you rank RBC in the current environment?
Rothschild is not far above RBC, Jefferies, and Blair in the US
Would you say RBC is a MM bank?
Is their RX group still considered to be very reputable with respect to exits and deal flow? Believe they were still high on the RX league tables in 2018 but not sure about last year and there's also the factor that the league tables don't capture out of court restructurings. Would love to hear from people that are in the industry what they think of the group these days.
Bump
RBC isn't an MM lol. Lower BB on par if not above UBS
Do you work at RBC?
No, but this is pretty common idea across the street.
Rothschild will always have an international brand name and is a borderline EB (top EB in Europe). Exits from the M&A group have historically been to MM / UMM shops, but there have definitely been analysts who have exited to MFs (it's dependent on the quality of the analyst). Consumer and Industrials are both strong groups, and RX is still strong even though they've lost important senior bankers. Personally, Rothschild over HW and Blair is a no brainer. I would also choose Rothschild over RBC. Not sure how to decide between Jefferies and Rothschild, although I'd probably choose Rothschild. HL RX over Rothschild RX
jefferies > blair = hw > rothschild = hl > RBC for m&a
I wouldnt put HW that high. Blair if you want Chicago, I'd agree. I'd pick RBC over HW
