Transaction Advisory to IB Associate?
The title explains itself, looking for some feed back from the community and anyone who's made the switch without an analyst stint. Ideally not looking to go back to get an MBA but understand that it might be necessary.
Background:
Currently - regional firm working in both transaction advisory (FDD, Quality of Earnings) and business valuation
1 year - corp strategy at a F500
3 years - MM BV (RSM, GT)
3.3 GPA, non-target undergrad
What are some exit opps from transaction advisory if IB doesn't pan out?
I work with someone who was a VP in TAS prior to becoming an IB associate. No MBA required, but he stayed at the same firm for TAS and IB.
You can do it for sure, you'll just likely come in as an A1. Interviewing will be tough since people will likely kick your resume aside for the hundreds of analysts applying but good luck.
Thanks for the reply. Any advice on the best way to sell myself and my experiences so far? Feel like I've built a good combination of skills to get in the door.
Just reach out to people on LinkedIn/via email that you've found on LinkedIn that made similar transition. Ask them for advice. There are 100's of analysts/associates that started out in TAS
you need to come in as an analyst, your experience is simply not comparable to what A2A or even MBA hires have gone through
Understandable but I'm hoping I wouldn't be coming in as a first year Analyst.
and I'm hoping I can go from associate to MD.
