Working in Rates/FX Derivatives, Where to next?

Currently I am a first year analyst at a MM, working in Rates/FX derivatives. Genuinely like what I am doing, especially the proximity to the markets and being in a client facing role. Always thinking about the next step though and being at MM firm we are small player in the overall scheme of things.

Looking for some recommendations on areas to look into for potential next steps. The logical move in my head is to look at moving to a BB to remain in Rates/FX or look into another product group like DCM or ECM. I really don't have much interest in moving to traditional IB (Coverage, etc.).

My worry is that by staying at a MM firm it will get more difficult to land at a BB the longer I stay and it would make most sense to make the jump once I finish up my first year. I could obviously look to lateral within my firm but typically they want you to put in 2 years in your initial role before switching groups.

Any advice or recommendations on areas to focus on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
