Does Goldman Sachs even consider public school candiates?

I have no experience whatsoever, the only good thing is I have a 3.96 GPA while being a student athlete. Use to be pre-med, but got busy with my sport and was told I didn't need anything more than a few basic science classes for med school, so I changed major into a b/s gender studies after a year and half.

Had high SATs but choose University of Georgia for sports. Applied and got into a few medical schools...but I really not sure if I even want to go down that route. I really want to try Invest Banking and defer my med school acceptance a year, but I am not even sure if Goldman Sachs (only place I applied to) will even look at an University of GA applicant.

 

You have no shot at Goldman which is like the most prestigious invest bank ever.

Do some research on here bud. If you haven't already had a prior internship in Finance (preferably multiple) you have close to a 0% chance at any of the big banks, especially if you're just filling out online applications. You absolutely have to network and make sure that you have some friends/family/ or Georgia alumni who will make sure your application gets flagged. Use your alumni directory, career services center, linkedin etc to find alumni in banking, reach out to them, ask them questions and get them to help you.

Also, make sure you know what the hell you're talking about. Ok you want to do IB, what is IB? Why do you like it? Can you walk me through a DCF? How strong is your accounting knowledge? If a company incurs $10 (pretax) of depreciation expense, how does that affect the three financial statements? Why GS? Why xxx bank? The list goes on and on and on.

No offense, but you sound clueless. If you really want to make a run at it, you're going to have to spend a ton of time researching, learning, and to be honest you'll probably end up at a regional banks vs a big NYC investment bank, you're already too late to the game. Either that or you'll need to defer graduation for a year or two in order to be eligible for internships.

Sounds like you're already set for med school, if you really want to work at a GS/MS etc its probably a good idea to do that after B school. Banking is so competitive now, you can't just dabble in it for a year because you kinda want to try it out, especially at a place like Goldman.
