how should I say this to my manager?

Hi everyone, I am a summer intern at back office of a non-BB Investment Bank (p.s. I'm a sophomore) until the end of August. Before I applied to this summer internship in June, I applied to JP Morgan's Inside the Industry in Hong Kong and just got accepted. As the event will be held on a morning of a weekday, I will either miss work or the event. Shall I be honest with my manager about my situation or shall I just tell him I have personal reasons etc and try to take the morning off (and obviously stay there late or make up the hours over the week/weekend)?

Would love yo hear your thoughts, thanks

p.s. Hope i posted in the correct forum ;)

No don't tell him, you should make up a personal excuse.

Only exception is, if you're interning at JPM as well. It would be pretty bad if you say you'll be out for a DR's appointment and your manager ends up being at the event. Or if someone else from the firm meets you and talks to you about what you're doing now, and somehow knows your manager, they run into each other and they say "hey, I met one of your interns the other day".

If you are interning at JPM, see if you can finagle something else, like say you've been invited to attend an event for interns at JPM and if their isn't anything pressing you'd like to attend and will catch-up with work after.
