How to get a job after not working for a year waiting for green card?

Right after graduation I worked in a very reputable bank in nyc for a year and had to go back to my country. Worked in my country almost a year and returned to the USA and I have been waiting for my green card / work permit to arrive for almost a year. Now I have a whole gap year on my resume and I’m still so young and a little inexperienced. I’m a bit worried about the job hunt. What should I say in my interview if I could manage to get one. Any advice on resume as well?

Probably a dumb question but because you don’t have it you can’t work any jobs? You probably should have just sat for the CFA level 1 just to show you were doing something or created your own business.

I think once you get in the door you can easily explain it but the problem is going to be people’s reactions to seeing that on the resume

I worked in a motor/engine company as a production analyst.

Maybe you should tell them that you worked in a motor/engine company as a production analyst.

Yes but after that I moved back to the U.S and it has been almost a year now that I haven’t worked because I had to wait here in the U.S for my green card. Sorry if I wasn’t clear before.

Oh.

Why would you leave your country where you were working to wait in the US for a year? Why didn't you just keep working until your green card cleared?
