how to interpret this

I had a superday with a MM bank a week and a half ago. There were 9-ish candidates competing for an experienced analyst spot and one 1st-year analyst spot.

I just heard from a VP at the bank that they were working on a few candidates who are more experienced than me. But then he told me to stay in touch because I apparently did really well at the superday. He said he'd let me know where my candidacy stands in a few weeks.

I imagine this means they're waiting to hear back from the guys they've already given offers to and also that they might be trying to pull some strings with HR to create another opening for me. I guess everyone l spoke with liked me.

Any thoughts on this?

i'll go with your first explanation. i hate to burst your bubble and hope you'll prove me wrong, but i'm not optimistic, unless the bank you interviewed with isn't very prestigious.

in a few weeks?

you're def. on the waiting list then. hope the other guys don't take the offer

I highly doubt they're talking to HR to make a slot for you...especially if they're hiring two analysts...

waiting game bro, shit sucks, been through it too

good luck

Were you in Europe by any chance? Because this kind of thing is more common. Anyway, it's hard to predict just what is going through their heads.

Sometimes, they put you on the waiting list and are waiting to find someone better. And sometimes at smaller shops they may really like you and are almost ready to give you a job, but just want to make sure first to interview everybody just in case somebody amazing comes along. So it's really unpredictable. The fact that you have a VP on your side sounds good, and he seems to be giving you positive signals.

I know this ia an incredibly anxious time, but there's really nothing you can do about it. Don't try to get into their heads. Just focus on what you're doing, hope for the best but prepare yourself for the worst just in case.

yeah man, it's not in your hands anymore so don't get paranoid over it. just keep plugging away. with a vp rooting for you, just plug away and hope for the best

Dinged. Told I'm interviewing well, but experience is the deciding factor.

Shit, sorry to hear that. Thanks for the update, though.
