Incoming Summer Analyst looking for advice...
Hello everyone – I just got an offer from a BB to join as a Summer Analyst in 2023 (IBD - Classic). I wanna spend the next year making sure that I know everything necessary to perform well during the internship. What exactly should I be studying? This is what I got so far:
- Public Comps Modeling
- Acquisition Comps Modeling
- DCF Modeling
- LBO Modeling
- Merger Consequences Modeling
Apart from these five things, what else should I learn? (both technical and not technical stuff)
Don't go into it thinking you know everything and put as much effort into your work into connecting with your team. Nobody wants to work with someone who is weird.
Yeah, I'm not weird, and will definitely make an effort to connect well with the team. However, being just friendly and not good at financial modeling won't get me a return offer haha. Any advice on what to focus on? Anything else from the five models I mentioned above?
You most likely will not be building models. You MAY touch on a bit of it, and it's important to understand how they work, their importance, and what they represent. You are not gonna be in charge of building a model by yourself. You'll more than likely have the opportunity to spread comps, not do a full LBO or DCF. Powerpoint is a skill you can really develop and is important as well since you'll be doing a lot of it.
And tbh i've known plenty of people who suck at modeling but are hard workers and mold well with the team who got return offers.
