Learning from an old school speculative investor in Vancouver, is it worth it?
I was a Computer Engineering major and I switched to Applied Math and Economics with 3 semesters left, to focus all my attention towards going into finance. This summer my only internship has been a business development internship which gives me a more client interaction sort of role with non for profits.
Besides these, my whole plan for this summer, after giving the CFA level 1 exam, was to kind of learn all I can about the finance world, on the side, earn some money and put that into a portfolio to begin with. On the other hand, I also want to use all this info I'm seeing and working with on WSO and my side readings to make a project, something which I can show to impress employers this upcoming fall.
I actually have an uncle who is an old, almost retired speculative investor who works from home on his own in Vancouver. Will it be worth it to travel to Vancouver to learn something from him for a few days? Will that old school speculative investing be of any worth or of any help in me putting it in front of potential employers this fall?
