Placement networking going slow
Reached out to some teams but haven't heard back (been around 5 days)- networking period is only 2 weeks. so shall I send follow-up, or will this come across as annoying? Could this also be an indirect sign that they might be considering other interns?
I’d say give it 1 week and then follow up
Based on the most helpful WSO content, it's generally advisable to follow up if you haven't heard back in about a week. Since your networking period is quite short (only 2 weeks), and it's already been 5 days, sending a polite and concise follow-up email could be beneficial. Here’s how you can approach this:
Keep it Short and Sweet: Your follow-up email should be brief and to the point. Express your continued interest in the position and politely inquire if they've had a chance to review your previous communication.
Express Understanding and Flexibility: Acknowledge their busy schedule and express your understanding. This shows professionalism and empathy.
Reiterate Your Value: Briefly restate why you are a good fit for the role or the team. This is a gentle reminder of your qualifications and enthusiasm.
Timing: Since you mentioned the networking period is only two weeks and it’s already been 5 days, sending a follow-up now is timely. Waiting too long might mean missing out on the opportunity altogether.
Sending a follow-up is not necessarily seen as annoying if done respectfully and at an appropriate interval. It shows your interest and initiative. As for the concern about them considering other interns, it's possible, but not hearing back within 5 days doesn't necessarily indicate that. Many professionals are just very busy and sometimes need a gentle reminder to respond.

Same here. I've had some follow-up calls with a few teams and honestly think I'm not any group's top choice. Idk if there is a right way to approach these calls, but I feel a little discouraged from this networking process. This is probably just all in my head as they must be extremely busy handling other intern calls on top of their real work. We'll see how it turns out. Hope you've gotten some responses by now--good luck OP.
