Where do I start...?
I'm not as oblivious as this thread might make me sound, but I'm in a bit of a stand still.
I'm currently in my second year at a community college in California with a 4.0 GPA (only lower division undergrad), waiting on my transfer applications to be processed at Berkeley, UCLA, and others. Upon those responses I will know MUCH more about what my summer and fall entail.
Given that, I'm not quite sure what I should be doing to prepare for IB in the future. I've been reading finance books, WSO, and other finance information for about a year now (when I originally was turned onto finance). I thought about trying to snag an internship this coming summer but didn't have any idea on how to go about that - especially considering I have no banks near where I live (I'm not living in SF or LA yet). I have a cousin at a small boutique in SF, and that's basically my only contact in finance (no parents, uncles, etc)
So basically my question is what can I/should I be doing right now to best prepare myself for the next step. Cold call? Email? Reach out and network more? Since I've yet to take any finance courses, I know I need to teach myself the basics of financial modeling, valuation, and typical/basic IB info. I plan to start recruiting during next fall's recruiting period.
Any input on networking, education, career, and other suggestions are welcome.
