BX Background Check - Nicotine

Hi everyone, starting BX SA 24, upcoming background check and I'm STRESSED. I vape frequently, and I was thinking that if nicotine shows up in the background check I'm cooked. Does anyone have insight into this? I'd love to get this off my chest before messing things up.

Thanks yall.

Sounds like you’re caught at this point.  Your best option is to try to overload the BX nicotine test.  An entire log of 6mg zyns on the day leading up to the test should get the job done.  Godspeed.

Congratulations on your upcoming position as a SA at Blackrock! Totally understandable to feel anxious about the background check.

The specifics of drug background tests depend on the company's policy and the legal regulations of the state or country where you'll be working.

In the context of the finance industry and firms like Blackrock, drug tests (if conducted) usually aim to identify illegal substances. Nicotine is a legal substance, so it's generally not included in standard employment drug tests. However, the policies can vary by company and location, especially with the increasing regulation around smoking and vaping.

In terms of moving forward without asking directly, here are a few steps you could look at:

  • Review the Background Check Information: Sometimes, companies provide details about what their background checks entail. Review any documentation or emails from Blackrock that outline the background check process.

  • Company Policy: You could look into Blackrock's company policies on smoking and vaping, though this information might be more difficult to find without asking directly.

  • Legal Standards: Research the laws and regulations regarding drug testing in the workplace for the state or country where you'll be employed. This can provide clarity on what employers can and cannot test for.

  • Confidential Inquiry: If you're still concerned, you could reach out to the HR department or your contact at Blackrock and inquire about the background check process. You don't need to mention your vaping specifically; you can frame your question more generally regarding what the background check entails.

Primarily, the checks are there to ensure that candidates don't have histories that would be detrimental to their job performance or the company's reputation. Personal habits like vaping, particularly nicotine, are generally not a focus unless they directly impact your work or violate company policy.

It's important to shift your thinking away from this, and toward performing as best as you can while working to secure a return offer. If you need help with that, reach out to me via mentoring and I am happy to provide 1-on-1 advice.

Codeine cancels out nicotine. Drink some Lean before the drug test and you'll be chilling.

Congrats on landing the BX SA 24 gig! I totally understand the stress of background checks. When it comes to nicotine, most standard checks focus on criminal history and employment verification rather than substance use. However, it's always good to be prepared. If you're worried about nicotine showing up, you might want to check out this article on how to pass a nicotine test if you vape. It's got some tips that could help you out. In the meantime, try not to stress too much. Focus on the exciting opportunity ahead and getting yourself ready for the role.
