Covid is one of the best things for the 2 years and out junior IB crowd
I am spending potentially upwards of 40% of my 2 years working from home, able to take breaks whenever, workout, wake up 2 mins before logging in, spend time with loved ones, and no face time. This is easier than college. I already had a full year of deals under my belt so not worried about experience or bad "deal flow" in the current environment.
Selfishly, I am almost glad this is happening. I could barely handle the thought of another full year of facetime, late night seamless meals, and sticking around the office till 2am to wait for comments. At least now I can do my mindless IB work with netflix playing on another monitor, enjoy my relocated west coast weather and scenery, take breaks to enjoy the significant other(or yourself for single folks), and take naps while waiting for the pointless comments to come through late at night. By the time this all normalizes and its back to the office to live the depressing 9 to 2am grind, I'll be about ready to leave.
Am I the only one?
I don't get why so many people on this forum are willing to work jobs they clearly don't enjoy.
Only dudes worth north of 25mil say this stuff
Oh trust me, I'm leaving. But considering this is coasting time, might as well ride this out to finish my 2 years move on to better exit ops.
Think the vast majority of complaints are likely from people more "junior" in their career, whether it be an entry level job or the next level past that. Personally, I can't think of a single one of my friends that loved their first job - it seems that, universally, entry jobs are pretty dull and painful. With that said, I think the real issue comes when there isn't a clear path to that role being a launching pad to a job/role (whether it be a more senior role in the same industry or a different job) that you expect to be something you'll like better
I do agree with the points above, however, i feel like the time spent doing those in-office activities are essential to your analyst years. Being in the office makes me feel more productive and although being at home is way more comfortable, it tends to get old rolling out of bed and doing my work. Just my 2 cents. I enjoy being able to speak with my associates and VPs in real time. I’m wrapping up my first year at a very boutique bank and have enjoyed being able to get a taste of both worlds in this unique situation. Some days I much rather be in the city than at my house.
Only thing I hate is I am bored of doing calisthenics, and all weights are sold out. Also, recruiting is put on hold and I have to stay in a role with no growth opportunities or upside, doing work I find repetitive and boring.
Well, it’s actually easier to interview now.
What line of work are you in?
Get Zwift (a smart trainer) - indoor cycling. Its pretty fun. Burns tons of calories.
There are not an insignificant number of people who, with a straight face, will tell you we need to keep businesses closed and keep society in quarantine until there is a vaccine, be that 12, 18, 24, or 36 months. I've always believed there were some people rather enjoying their prison sentences.
