Ever meet anyone famous?

Thought about this the other day and thought it would be a fun thread.

Vegas circa 2010. We see Suge Knight among his crew out in the shop area of the Venetian. One of the girls is brave (drunk) enough to go say hi. Classic Suge when a pretty girl approaches is all gentlemanly and polite and allows her to take a selfie. He said she smells so good and that was that.

Mighty Ducks Player. I won’t say who, but met one of the main team players from the first mighty ducks movie. The acting career never took off and they went into corporate work after college. They were as normal (boring) as any other cube dude in a corporation.

A different Vegas trip I saw Flava Flav hanging out in an empty bar that we were chilling at. He was cordial when we said what’s up.

A former coworker of mine wasn’t a great flyer. She would buy first class tickets and have all sorts of comfort food to ease her anxiety. As she’s chowing down on Diet Coke and handfuls of Oreos, a gentleman next to her begins explaining how bad both of those things are for her health and may even exasperate her anxiety. She puts the nosy tall black guy in his place and keeps indulging. Then a stewardess smiled as she approached them and said, “Hello Michael Jordan!! I’m a huge fan!!”

I met Keifer Sutherland at Radio Bar in NYC. He told me I looked just like his best friend. We talked for 30min and I tried to buy tequila shots, but he said he was hammered already and couldn't drink any more so we just chatted it up about random stuff for like half an hour. I felt like we had known each other for ages. Chris Noth was also at the bar and I asked him for a photo and he said no. What a d!ck. He was sitting amidst like 8 girls. Ironically, my sister piloted a NYC to SFO flight and Chris Noth was in first class the same week as I saw him. She said he was very nice. Yeah right ok Chris Noth.

I saw Agassi and Graf at an IMAX theater in London. They sat right in front of me and this girl. We didn't talk to them though.

I met Kelly Slater and his girlfriend Gisele in 2006 in South Africa (Jeffrey's Bay). I have a picture of Slater and I with him on the guitar.

I’m waiting for a monkey to say, “I met Isaiah. Don’t take him up on his arm wrestling challenge.”

I'm lucky to have met a number of famous people... Don Cheadle, Salt Bae, Alessandra Ambrosio (VS model), Ben Bernanke, Jalen Rose, Stephen "tWitch" Boss, Mike Epps, Grant Cardone, Samira Wiley, Kendrick Sampson, RJ Mitte. Mind you, I don't work in entertainment and most of these happened randomly while I lived in NYC & LA. I've seen a few other famous people from a distance but I'm only counting the ones I took pics with.

I’m only counting the people with interactions.

I’ve seen some athletes around NYC including A Rod. Saw Baldwin during a filming. I’ve seen some of the SNL cast.

But, these people in passing rushing in or out of somewhere.

One of my good friends is best friends with a professional athlete and through him I’ve met a few nba and nfl stars. Pretty cool but they don’t really give you the time of day. It’s been pretty amazing to be at clubs or parties with them and watch beautiful women just throw themselves at these guys. It’s no wonder they all cheat. Impossible not to.

During my high stakes days I’ve been in games with Allen Cunningham, Eli Elizera, and Ted Forrest and one time, Phil Ivey showed up for like an hour. That was pretty cool.

I have only eaten at masa once and sitting on the other side of the sushi bar was Jason Biggs from American Pie.

Met Bill Cosby at a dinner.  He was everything you'd expect.  Told some funny stories, threw around some decent "old wise man" wisdom, and aggressively hit on a young lady (late 20's) at the table while using his whole Dr. Huxtable vibe to make it seem more innocent than it was.

Best interaction was a recent one.  I don't know how many F1 fans we've got here, but got to be in a small group Zoom call (6 of us I think) with Guenther Steiner.  Those who know his personality will understand that I came into that call with very high expectations.  And he managed to exceed them.  Could not have been any nicer, smarter, or funnier than he was.  Meet him if you get a chance.

A so-so experience was Carl Icahn.  Like the two previous examples, he was what you think he'd be.  More positive than negative.  He's a straight shooter, no BS.  Reasonably friendly. But interrupts a lot while being quite wordy himself.

My takeaway from meeting famous people is that we know them better than we think.  You always hear how they're never who you expect them to be . . my experience is that they're very much who I expect them to be.  Maybe these days with so much social media and reality TV, we're getting more of a real glimpse to who they are.

That zoom call sounds like a dream. If I could meet anyone from the F1 scene it would certainly be Guenther, guy is hilarious and seems like he would be a blast to talk to. Christian Horner would be my second pick.

Yeah if you ever get a chance to meet Guenther I promise he won't disappoint.  Mostly he was just super friendly and hilarious, we didn't get into the behind-the-scenes much.  The one 'fun fact' I learned was that he's one of the leaders within F1 on the Net Zero 2030 initiative.  So he gave us a little presentation on that, and his command over the techical side was incredible . . materials, fuels, engine design, logistics etc.  I knew he started as an engineer, now I know he must've been a damn good one.

Agree with you Horner would be interesting too.  You might know this YouTuber/photographer named Kym Ilman who photographs every race.  He's said Horner is one of the nicest people in F1.

Nice. Guenther is the most fun team principal. I'd probably want to meet Toto. Guy seems like a badass and deserves props for putting together one of most successful teams in history.

Lots of pro athletes. Football players are obscenely jacked and I feel people don’t appreciate it unless they used to be athletes themselves. If you saw a cornerback without pads on in a regular gym, he’d be one of the biggest people there (in general).

Baseball players aren’t usually jacked but will have massive forearms (unless pitchers). Basketball players are just massive and you don’t truly get how big they are until you’re standing next to Tyson Chandler and he’s absolutely ripped at like 7’1”.

Mark Cuban is extremely nice in real life. Don’t know who Al Pacino was when I met him (was a young kid) but he got someone to get me a grape lollipop.

Stephen A Smith is hilarious. He was just standing off to the side on his phone and someone yelled out something about Skip Bayless and Stephen A turned into the guy we see on First Take lol. Was amazing to watch and then he bowed after like 2 minutes of back and forth with the guy and walked away.

Lots of country singers are absolute tools. Luke Bryan is not one of those - the few times I’ve been around him, he’s nice to a fault and his “people” have to force him to leave fans. Luke Combs is cool - dude’s just a redneck who can sing.

Was at an airport waiting in line for food and Piers Morgan came up behind me. Seemed normal - they fucked up his sandwich and he had to wait for them to remake it.

Saw Russell Wilson and Ciara at LAX like 5AM. He was wearing a hoodie and my group were the only ones who noticed who they were. He (we didn’t want a picture with Ciara lol) walked a bit aways from his gate where there were less people to take a pic with us as he said he didn’t want everyone to notice, but he spent like 5 minutes talking with us and taking pictures. Told us to do a funny pic and then took his hoodie off and said we all had to do one flexing. Remember, this was at 5AM. Dude was full of energy and while he’s become a meme nowadays, my personal interaction with him was that this is a guy that just loves life.

Met Post Malone summer 2018 and he drank an obscene amount of alcohol and was ripping cigs all night. Very nice but absolutely hammered.

Daniel Cormier is as wide as he is tall and is really nice.

Dog the Bounty Hunter seemed huge (I was a little kid).

Totally agree on football players.

I was walking through Heathrow with my mom (2010ish) and Adrian Peterson walks by and I do a double take. I tell my mom who he is and she comments on how he doesn't look that big as he's wearing a tracksuit jacket. As we board the plane he ends up sitting in front of us. He takes off his jacket and my mom leans over and says now she sees he's a football player. His bicep was the size of my head. He slept through the entire flight but his bodyguard was cool.

These are great! Maybe it goes without saying, but I’m glad it’s cordial. It’s easy to speak ill of celebs. I knew someone who was a hostess for box seats at a stadium. Many famous folks were there and she had plenty of raw stories of how so and so seems so kind in interviews and is an outright witch to those who were serving her private party in the suite.

Saw Kevin Garnett golfing on the same course I was at. He was playing with a rapper I had never heard of. Nice guy when we crossed paths, but man his swing needed work!

About 3 years ago met Johnny Knoxville in Hawaii while he was playing in the ocean with his daughter. Wasn't sure it was him at first, but heard him speak and it was so obvious. Didn't want to disturb his family time and Jackass 4 had just been announced, so quickly told him I was excited to see it. His response: "I'm not excited to make it, but great to meet you and hope you enjoy it."

When I was younger, my mother took me to the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline, MA as a reward for getting through my first week of high school. It was "Porsche Day", a marque about which I didn't know too much then (nowadays I love them), and there was the awards ceremony for the best cars at the end of the event. My mother heard that a man named "James Woods" was being given a prize, and as she found out that he was the actor (and not someone with the same name), she arranged to have me take a picture with him and his gorgeous Neunelfer in der Farbe Burgunderrot, model year 1969/1970 (can't remember which one) with the targa top.

Only including people I've spoken to -

Artists: Met Lil Baby, Waka Flocka (Bro is lit), Dababy, Rubi Rose, Toosi, and Zac Brown Band.

NFL: Met Tom Brady (I understand Gisele), Rob Gronkowski, Victor Cruz, Devin McCourty, and Jason McCourty.

NBA: Played basketball with Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lamb (Crazy seeing how fast NBA players move). Met John Wall, JR Smith, Cade Cunningham, Gelo Ball, Jahlil Okafor, and many others.

Politicians: Met Pres. Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and most high status Republicans. Too many to name.

*Walked by Timothée Chalamet but didn't speak to him. Just stood out because he was wearing a tank top when it was about 50 degrees outside.

TB's personality off the field is like a college frat guy. When he was married, he was acting like a bachelor. Great guy but was surprised by his "youthfulness". Gronk is a cool, chill guy, exactly what most people expect. Know both of them through friends in the league. Met all the rappers while in college, school is big on the culture. Trump was normal, Biden was shaky. Seeing both of them up close, drastic difference in energy/presence. Have met so many by having a large network. Living in a smaller market. It's very likely if a celebrity comes through my state, I know someone that can get me access

I've met a number of NFL players when I was in college, NBA too. NFL only a couple are really household names, same with NBA. Only negative experience was one of the NBA players was back in our college town for a football game and left a $0 tip after a maybe $500 tab (college prices, so A LOT of drinks).

Worked with the girlfriend of the higher-profile NBA player. Very dumb, but very nice.

Also met the rapper YG after one of his shows when he was hanging out with fans, right after My Krazy Life came out so he wasn't as well known as today. He performed at the same show as J Cole (his forest hills drive tour) and Big Sean. It was kinda funny, two "rap hot" women were in the row in front of us and literally got picked out of the crowd by some of the guys from a performer's entourage and asked to join them backstage. One can only imagine what goes on back there...

I went to Equinox on 63/Lex one day and Derek Jeter was training on the mats with his crew. We locked eyes as I walked by, but didn't approach him or anything. Also, Uriah Hall the UFC fighter used to be my kickboxing coach in NYC.

My best meeting someone famous stories:

Was walking home with my cousins after having played tennis and a teal blue 300 SEL convertible and I stop the car to let the driver know how cool it is and just want to admire it, who is in the car?? Arnie!! So yeah I said nice car and he said thanks and drove off, never gonna forget that. So yeah I met Arnold Schwarzenegger on a road in Cape Cod!!

Met Ibrahimovic a couple of times, I speak Serbian and he's originally from ex yugoslavia and my mom helped get his kids a tutor.

Went to school with Johnny Depp, Luc Besson, Decaux's kids so I met them a couple of times as well and got to speak to Johnny back in the 2nd grade, from then on I knew that amber was lying XD.

Met Nancy Pelosi at an event, I kid you not it was my first time realising holy fuck the US is run by semi senile individuals, this was back in 2019 and she looked half dead...

I’ve met Jay Leno several times, he’s a genuinely nice guy. My dad and I used to frequent Cars and Coffee type meetups. We have a photo of me sitting in Jay Leno’s Ferrari Enzo when I was 10 years old, I’ve always thought that was really cool of him.

Also Keanu Reeves at car meetups as well, didn’t talk much but he did like the conversation about cars. He seemed more shy when people wanted to talk about movies.

Not famous per say, but I used to see the creator of a famous food/ snack that everyone here has heard of and he’s a billionaire. He would give me advice and was also very nice.

As an aside, I’ve noticed that very successful people tend to treat others with lots of respect and are kind.

Actors/Actress/Music: Ben Affleck, Andre 3000, Kim, Kourtney, and Kloe Kardashian, Woody Harrelson, John Mayer, Ne-Yo, Taylor Swift, Melissa Joan Hart, Ludacris, Miley Cyrus, T.I. , Johnathan and Drew Scott (HGTV Property Brothers), Timbaaland, Heather Locklear, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, Da Brat

Sports: Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, Nolan Ryan, Magic Johnson, Kirk Herbstreit, Nick Saban, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Dikembe Mutombo, Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, Chipper Jones, Julio Jones, John Smoltz, Floyd Mayweather, Matt Ryan, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Chase Elliot, Joey Logano, Mike Schmidt,

With daddy working as a director in the film industry, that's kind of cheating I admit. But Norman Reedus and the rest of the Walking Dead cast, Chuck Norris, David Lynch, Snipes, cast of the original Robocop movie, Sandra Bullock and some more.

Sports wise: Dak, Zeke, Spieth, Stafford, Okafor (went to school with him. Dude is super smart), the d-bag Bradford who tried to hit on my then fiance in front of me, Tim Duncan, Aikman (who's a douche btw), Emmit Smith and I'm sure I've run into more that I just didn't recognize without their helmets and uniforms on.

Musically: Crystal Method, Ying Yang twins, Burden Brothers / Toadies, Jessica Simpson, DJ Icey, Old 97's.

Plus lots of local celebrities and a couple of Playboy Playmates.

I know I wanted to bust his face that afternoon out of being disrespected, but generally speaking, yes. That Sam.

Traveling back and forth from West to East coast you occasionally see a lot or celebs (especially out of LAX or JFK).  Off the top of my head, I’ve been in the same cabin as Brooke Shields, Jalen Rose, Lance Bass, Tia Cerrere, Tracey Morgan, etc.  It’s cool to run into them but I never bother them, I am sure they want to have a pleasant flight like the rest of us.

Sometimes folks just want to be at peace while they are out.

Funny story. When I was a kid dining out with my grandparents, my grandpa made a comment that 2 Cubs players were sitting across the way. My grandma said well let me say hello. My grandpa said no. It went back and forth until my grandma had enough and grabbed two drink coasters, a pen, and asked the two Cubs players for their autographs for me.

I still have them tucked away with my other memorabilia, but now for the life of me can't remember the players names!

What a great thread. I'm late to the party, but will try to think of mine:

  • Matt Levine - this one made me all giddy. I've read Money Stuff since its inception, and am glad to see how much it's grown. I was in Manhattan on business and ran into him at the WTC Blue Bottle around 7:30a or so. Apparently, he's a frequent flyer there. Super lowkey guy, just said what's up and I was a fan of his stuff.
  • Amy Poehler - ran into her at LAX back in 2012 or so, back when I was living in LA. She was coming off the plane I was getting on. I said hello before a lot of people around us were like "wait, is that Amy Poehler?" so she was quickly swarmed. Evidently, she flew coach. Stay classy, Amy!
  • Richard Sherman - I fucking love this guy. One of the smartest people I've ever met. Everyone looks at him and assumes 'football', but let's not forget this guy has two degrees from Stanford and besides Tony Romo is my favorite announcer NFL-wise. Ran into him in DC, this was in 2018 when the 49ers were playing the Skins. He was in the mall, of all places.
  • Matt Carriker - not sure if YouTubers count, but I've been following DemoRanch for years now. Met him last year at a gun range, he was doing a product demo. What a sweet guy.
  • Glenn Youngkin (obviously) - was debating if this counted. I've met and spoken to Glenn over a dozen times. Lots of things I agree with, both business & political. Lots of things I dislike about the guy too. Mostly business. No, don't ask me for more detail.
  • Some others. I have a meeting to go to now so will come back to edit comment. LOL

Natty Mall, should have capitalized that. Usually, I avoid that place like the plague, as DC tourists love to stand still in the middle of the sidewalk. But was there one day, just so happened to run into half the 49ers D-Line. Not a 9ers guy, but gotta love Sherman. He was extremely kind and very well-spoken. We both got to shit-talk the Skins, him as their opponent and me as a NYG fan!

I met Condoleezza Rice in middle school, and I saw Anderson Cooper ride a bike in NYC once. Shook Buttigieg's hand (typical government/politician weasel), and talked to Tim Kaine briefly now that I remember.

Quant (ˈkwänt) n: An expert, someone who knows more and more about less and less until they know everything about nothing.

Won't turn it into a political thread, but I actually kind of like Buttigieg. I have some severe disagreements with his methodology, but align with a lot of his ideals - at least infrastructure-wise. Considering I work in infra, definitely someone I've read a lot about over the years. If only the B/H Infrastructure Bill was ACTUALLY for funding those types of projects and not a bunch of other pre-packaged shit in there...

...okay, I'll stop. Overall, Pete seems like a nice guy.

I get what you mean, I like that too. More so what I meant was that he also just gave a canned little response that seemed so inauthentic for the setting at the time, just reminded me of every politician, I'll DM you about that. Seems like a nice guy beyond that though.
