Finance Fiction Sub-Forum?

Been noticing numerous daily postings on here of finance fiction - thoughts on creating a fiction section for posts?

Could be abbreviated as FIC or something. Different from off topic, which is a more mature forum meant for intellectual discussion

"Weaponized Stupidity" sounds like a Reddit for meme stock traders. lol

Then you would be removing the mystery of whether the person is trolling or not.  50% of people think these posts are real.  I think one of the purposes of trolling is to fool some people.

Yeah, there are people here who have lots of accounts.  One guy in particular uses his main account to sound like normal finance guy and then he uses all the other accounts to say ridiculously insulting things.  Idk, I have one account and do not need more than one.

What helps add to the illusion is that in most cases, I can think of at least 1-2x that a similar situation actually happened.

The fact that it's at least plausible makes it so much more believable.

Do you think the comments on the site have gotten less intelligent sounding lately? Seems like there used to be a lot of experienced and knowledgeable contributors, now it seems like many of the commenters are people who don’t work in the field

It doesn't help when some have attempted to provide genuine discussion or insight, only to get MS thrown at them, or to receive criticism (and/or condescending attitude) from those who are barely in finance at all.

There are too many users who think they know more than they really do, and they feel entitled to criticize, without knowing the first thing about much.

I saw one post where a prospect attempted to insult and give career advice to an MD (with ~20 YOE).

I saw another post where an intern attempted to criticize and act condescending to a CEO (with ~30 YOE), with the intern claiming that he knows the industry better... somehow.

I think many would be more willing to have intelligent discussion, but it's discouraging after having been burned a few times -- by new people with attitudes of knowing it all.

I am aware of at least several people on WSO with over 20 YOE. A few notable CEOs, several very seasoned MDs, at least one billionaire, and a mix of many others with solid experience, who could provide key insight.

However, the overall attitude lately doesn't seem to invite that discussion, or seek to gain valuable insight, which is unfortunate.

I agree, it's disappointing.
