What are your takes on the Will Smith situation?

Want to hear your takes on the Will Smith situation. My concern is that there was no repercussion from the crowd. Minutes later he was given a standing ovation by everyone, the joke wasn't even that bad. I don't understand how a man that has achieved the success that he has can have such little self-respect, pulling something like that to claw at some kind of respect from his wife.

It is very sad

I agree, he overreacted. Roasting people, including family members, is something that all comedians do. If Chris Rock deserved a slap, then by that same logic Ricky Gervais should be shot. I can understand how Will took offence and I think maybe saying something after or even interrupting the show to call him out may be somewhat ok, but slapping him took things too far. Plus, she has alopecia. I know it is a horrible disease that people suffer from, but she isn't balding from chemotherapy and has 6 months to live. It was also a semi-crude joke...you could say worse things about something without hair. He's also an absolute pussy and slapper Chris only because it was Chris. Had Jamie Foxx, Kevin Hart or Eddie Murphy made a similar joke he wouldn't have had the balls to slap them. Just embarrassing for him.

The joke I'm going with making fun of the joke that was his beta simp actions is "Will Smith finally has a hit after over a decade!"

If you get a chance, find the unedited overseas audio of the whole thing. Smith goes off saying "Keep my wife's name out yo' f***'in mouth!" a couple of times. Totally after it's all happened and done with, and you can tell he's just saying it to try and do anything to back up the slap.

Also, props to Rock for keeping his cool and letting it bounce off of him...like a rock. Kept his cool, almost seemed more surprised at how weak it was than that it actually happened at all, and just went on with the ceremony and let it go.

First of all, you don't slap a man. Ok. I mean, even when slapping was fashionable, ya know, they did it in Paris, some guy would come up, (slap!) "I challenge you to a duel." They would have a gunfight after that, somebody had to go!

That is 100% happening here. Like in the good ol days when the boss would chew out his employee and then he would go home and smack around his wife and kids, and then the kid goes to the playground and smacks around a smaller kid, and so on and so on.

This is Will Smith wound up and angry about his situation and going after someone who is:

A: Smaller than him

and

B: In a position he couldnt retaliate (dude is hosting a show in front of millions)

Complete coward move.

For me, it just sums up Hollywood. As much as I like and respect Will Smith as an actor - the fact that he jumped up and assaulted someone, and then went on to make a speech to thunderous applause, is just absolutely nuts. What type of example does that set to young people watching it - if someone disagrees with you, you can punch/bitch-slap them and experience zero repercussions?? Imagine if you did that in a workplace - do you think your colleagues would be applauding? No, you’d likely be immediately fired and escorted from the building (and rightfully so).

Not comparing Will to Weinstein of course, but you can see how people like Weinstein got away with stuff for years - Hollywood is frankly so fickle/willing to look the other way about anything.
