What’s it like at Harvard?

Been watching the show Suits lately and they talk about Harvard non stop on there. Just wondering can anyone opine on their experience (coursework, people, expectations, recreation, etc.) at Harvard (obviously talking to Harvard alums). I’m not contemplating going there. Just would like to get some honest opinions from people who actually went there.

Controversial

Very liberal, very gay, very "diverse" and not in a good way. The Israel Palestine shit has made it cool to openly hate on Jews again, god knows if they hadn't forced out that woke president they'd probably start restricting their entry just like they did back in the 1920s. The only people who don't have their heads firmly shoved up their own asses are for the most part athletes.

Seems more extreme at certain schools including Harvard and most of the ivy league schools.  I don't have an official measurement of this but anecdotal evidence is abundant.  Highly doubt Rutgers has the same % of students with their heads shoved up their ass.

Antisemitism is everywhere, and it’s not just an Ivy problem. Look up every UC, UVA, public schools in NY, Rutgers, etc.

Never said it was an Ivy-exclusive problem. The thread is about Harvard and they're a school that just so happens to have previously had a policy of straight up not accepting Jewish students and seem to now once again be embracing anti-Semites, this time because they happen to be ethnic minorities (in the US; they outnumber both white and Jewish globally).

They banned frats. If you wear an American flag t shirt I am not kidding you will get gross looks for the micro aggression. Elitist group with 0 social skills, either frail or obese, and paper machet skin.

More like a normal college than you’re probably assuming. There are some “elite circles” — certain final clubs and all — but, for the most part, it’s just college. If you’re not ultra-connected going in, you will likely not have a very different experience than you would at any other elite school in a similar setting. The biggest differences are probably 1) the sheer amount of resources available to you (though this is probably the case at Yale or Princeton as well), 2) the fact that you are surrounded by celebrity children, famous academics, and the 0.01%, and 3) the hype that surrounds the school (Harvard news becoming national news, reactions to the fact that you went to Harvard, etc…).

It’s also politically strange. Liberal, but very much in a “I want to work in private equity and virtue signal” kind of way.

Having transferred into a similarly prestigious school (maybe a little less so), I can honestly say that the resources component cannot be underestimated. When you have a school this selective, with such a massive endowment, the number of resources available on a per student basis is simply massive. Do not discount how that allows you to develop as a student/professional.

Used to have talent. Nowadays, majority of the kids are either Trinity/Brearley/Spence/Horace, legacy, donations, related to staff, "varsity crew/squash", or they wrote something liberal about being a victim/some made up disparity in their college essay. Another half created a "non-profit" to which closed the second they got on campus. Almost impossible for a kid from a competitive public high school, but those are the ones who actually earned it. Sad reality is a guy like Steve Schwarzman or Carl Icahn (both middle class backgrounds at Yale & Princeton) would have zero shot getting into HYP nowadays.

The resources comments are spot on. (I didn't attend but know several who did, both UG and MBA, LS, MD. They literally have top professors in their field (doesn't mean the best teachers but most renowned, research, etc.) They attract prestigious speakers and partners. Leaders of government, NGOs, science, etc come to speak there frequently. It's like they come to the US, meet with the White House, speak at the UN, and then go to Harvard before heading home. Does that matter? Maybe, maybe not bit it shows how Harvard is perceived in the world. Resume strength is formidable.

I met a bunch of HBS grads in NYC and they said their experience at HBS was kind of like a 2 year cocktail party / networking event with peers and companies.

Harvard is amaaaaaazing. So much fun. Go if you can

"According to Jeff Skilling, during his admissions interview for Harvard Business School, he was asked if he was smart, to which he replied, "I'm fucking smart.""

Any difference from any other top tier school?

Yeah - I think NYU has the best location.
