Q&A: Federal Government Careers

I have worked in various Financial Management and Human Resources roles for the US Government over the last 11 years. Prior to that, I worked for a top 100 private company in the federal contracting space. A 2004 relocation from IL to Washington DC accidentally resulted in a 100% increase in salary that lasted until just before the 2007/2008 crash. Having started a family during the 3 years proceeding the recession, I saw the immediately need for a stable job with an industry leader immune to economic downturns. I made use of personal contacts to obtain an entry-level position in Government Logistics & Finance. I have now worked my way up and certainly sleep better knowing that my employer will always be able to print money (legally) in the short to medium term.
