Risk Analyst at Chase
My wife recently got an offer from a department at Chase; job responsibility is statistics modeling. The base is higher than what she has now, just barely covers the living cost difference. She searched online and found many negative comments about the environment at Chase. People complained about long hours, bad compensation and a lot of stress. Is it really a bad place to work at? Is it worth the risk to relocate to New York with practically no raise?
JP Morgan is a HUGE organization. Were these comments specific to that group, or just overall? Remember when reading online forums that people who are pissed off are a lot more likely to go online and bitch than someone who is very content with their job going online to write about how great it is...
This is a tough question, feel free to message me if you want details.
NYC is a very costly city, be prepared for that if you plan on relocating for the job. JP IBD, can be a grind but I can tell you that the people I've met have all been very personable and kind, but that's just my group.. Not sure about risk, never worked in that particular department, but I've heard good things. Very flexible firm, you can move internally with ease. Great brand name, solid training.
To clarify, I don't believe that you should trust the board, if your wife met her group and she likes the people, it should be fine.
I will echo Billy Ray Valentine's comments in that JPM is a very, very big firm with many different lines of business not only across the US, but across the world. If your wife likes the opportunity and the people she is going to work with, then go for it. Just like any job offer, you have to weigh the risks and rewards/pros and cons. Sometimes it helps to simply write down these things and see them on paper.
