VP being a pain in the ass
Folks we’ve all been there - some new VP joins the firm and starts trying to value add by over-complicating basic stuff, creating arbitrary deadlines, creating useless “pls fixes”, over-promising Upwards (which is fucking easy when you’re not the one doing actual work).
Now the tricky part is I’m also new to the firm and under extreme time pressure have made some work mistakes. Nothing blew up, but the VP could try to turn around and throw me under the bus with this.
Is there any way to highlight the situation / problem to more senior folk? Also, what is a good defense against mistakes under time pressure? Let’s be practical - we all expect mistakes which is why work goes through multiple reviews before going to clients, and when under unreasonable time pressure it happens more often. If it was a good VP he / she would be understanding that it was a real client-driven situation and just focus on getting it done instead of focusing on finding mistakes to gloat.
Some might say just hang in there and it might get better, but things have been too extreme with 100 hour weeks going on for months (since the VP joined) and I’m afraid burnout will set in soon.
Appreciate any advice.
