Associates in PE: how do you spend your time?

I am coming up on a year into my PE career at this point, and find myself working on things that I wouldn't have expected prior to entering PE. Assuming no live deal is on (which would otherwise take up most of your time), interested to get everyone's perspective on how you spend your time (on average), between the following categories:

  • Deal sourcing

  • Desk research on investable industries/themes

  • Strategic portfolio projects

  • FP&A type portfolio activities

  • Analysis on either inbounds or continuing relationships with owners/executives

I find myself doing way too much of the "FP&A type portfolio activities", and am trying to figure out what the normal is here...

Would also help if you could mention if you're LMM/MM/Mega Fund/Family Office, and what your Associate : Platform ratio is

Is MF PE really investing or is it really just deploying capital and taking advantage of the non liquidity and beta trades?

Investing is the same thing as taking advantage of illiquidity and beta. Tautology.
