There was post a while ago about someone who is in PE with Asperger (which is called Autism Spectrum Disorder now under DSM guidelines) I believe, so I think there are some people with Asperger/Autism in PE. However, as you mentioned its tricky with missing social cues. difficulty maintaining eye contact, etc. Which could be a downside given path to PE is usually from IB, and in IB these things matter a lot. ASD/Asperger doesn't have uniform symptoms, so one person might be good at masking their autism traits while another struggles to hide it.

After a couple of years in PE, most people’s social skills have totally regressed due to lack of exposure to normal non neurotic psycho people and their lives being consumed by deals. Talking to friends still in PE at MFs is eye opening, literally can’t be present during conversations and don’t have anything to talk about other than work. Took me almost 1-2 years after leaving to feel like my social skills recovered and I was back to my old self and personality. I’d imagine it would take even longer for some folks who’ve been in the industry for longer.
