Finance Networking Events in NYC
Hey All:
I work at a private equity firm in CT and I was wondering if you had advice about connecting with other investment professionals in NYC. Are there networking events/societies/associations that you would recommend?
Thanks...

Thank you.
My experience has been that these sorts of events tend to be horrible. It's a combination of people looking for jobs, people looking to sell you things/services, people from family Asset Management offices masquerading as PE or HF tycoons, etc.
What is your goal in going to these events? Whatever it is, there is almost certainly a better way to achieve it than these events.

The clearly post that events are "STRICLY CLOSED to job seekers And A valid business card is required for admission."
if you work in PE, sign up for NYPEN.

Best NYC REPE networking organizations? (Originally Posted: 10/19/2011)
What are the best networking organizations for young professionals employed in the REPE biz in NYC? I know that there is a YREP out there. What else is worth checking out?
I'm not looking to network into a new job... just to build contacts in the industry.
ULI
What else? Is YREP a waste of time?
What about networking w/ the broader wall street community?
New York Private Equity Network (NYPEN) - Real Estate, ULI, ICSC, probably some solid Jewish ones if thats your profile
Networking in NYC (Originally Posted: 02/25/2010)
For those of you work in finance in NYC, are there a lot of opportunities to network with people at other firms and groups, like networking events, etc?
I'd also like to know, specifically some that would allow students perhaps?
.
Try this There's also a couple of different groups in New York, like NYSSA, or the culture specific clubs like ALPFA and TAP.
when I was working out of my BBs NYC office, networking came through going out with people from your group, which is how you meet people from your building, then you go out with them, meet their friends from other companies. Then start attending investment conferences, charity events, etc. Eventually you run into people you went out with, they introduce you to more people,,,etc. After about a year or so of doing this a lot you will have a pretty decent network going. Just make sure you present yourself as likeable and not annoying.
oh and as far as being "likeable". This is very easy if you just follow a few rules.
Two and Four tie in together. Hedge Four with Two. Drink only to the limit where you don't forget names. Once you start forgetting names, that means you need to drink less next time.
