"Investor at..." on LinkedIn
I have seen a lot of people going into the Growth/VC space 0-2 years out of college putting the title "Investor at XYZ" on LinkedIn instead of Analyst or Associate, which would be their actual role. What do you guys think of this? Is it just common practice, or do you think it's a bit silly?
at many of those firms that is technically their role. it is so that when they cold call or cold email founders / CEOs to source, it’s not as apparent they are talking to a 24 year old. that is also why you may notice many of them remove the years they went to college or data that gives away their age.
I did this when I worked in VC, it’s helpful at the margins to get founders to take you seriously as some early 20s recent grad who doesn’t know his ass from his elbow
Analyst/Associate are job titles. Investor is a role. Can be interchangeable. Agree with above, it's to boost sourcing ability.
Pretentious. This is probably the natural linkedin evolution of the incoming summer analysts.
many firms require/recommend juniors do this
Ok intern
Who cares lol
I do that's why I asked
Agree, it doesn't matter. Focus on yourself.
My firm requires
Yup, this is common because many entrepreneurs are savvy enough to know not to waste their time talking to a junior person who doesn't have decision making authority. Firms like a16z take it a step further and call all their junior people "partner" while the actual check-writers are "general partner"
